On Sunday, October 24, Arizona Federal’s Service Squad visited the Civitan House and enjoyed an afternoon of hamburgers, hotdogs and a game of serious kickball!
Joyce Ridge, one of the directors, shared their mission to provide a “home” for persons who have developmental disabilities.
Although they receive no state funding, the love and devotion of the staff is apparent upon visiting. This three-duplex facility with 26 residents has a staff of eight. Residents are encouraged to work, attend church and even visit their annual summer camp. In fact, next summer they are going on a Hawaiian cruise!
The highlight of the Service Squad’s visit was the kickball game at the nearby park. Residents of the Civitan House take kickball very seriously. Upon being told that they were going to the park to play, everyone jumped into gear and put their game faces on. It was a blast! Even other patrons in the park enjoyed watching the game.
The residents of the Civitan house were very appreciative and invited the Squad back soon.
