| On Saturday, August
5, six volunteers from the Arizona Federal Service Squad got up early to
demonstrate their cooking
skills at HomeBase Youth
Services (HBYS). The Service Squad cooked eggs,
pancakes and potatoes for the
individuals. The teens were
extremely appreciative of the
hot breakfast.
HomeBase Youth Services’
Transitional Living Program
helps homeless youth in
Arizona between 18 and 21.
Located in Phoenix, this 25-bed, single story, apartment-style,
transitional living facility
provides youth with a safe,
stable environment where they
feel cared for and valued.
Upon entrance into the
HBYS Transitional Living
Program, homeless youth
meet with a case manager
to discuss their goals and
assess their life skills, any
chemical dependencies,
anger management issues,
relationship challenges,
News & Notes
health problems, psychiatric
medications usage, counseling
needs, issues related to abuse
and neglect and educational
needs.
Since no fees of any
kind are charged to the youth
for living in the Transitional
Living Program, working youth
are required to save 80% of
their earnings. These funds
are theirs upon graduating
from the program for future
rents, deposits, utilities, basic
furnishings and more.
For youth who have not yet
obtained a high school diploma,
case managers work with them
to enroll them in the program
most appropriate to serve their
needs to gain a diploma or
GED, including utilizing the
HBYS Learning Center.
Service Squad members were happy to serve. It was a wonderful event.
