On
Sunday, October 24, the Arizona Federal Service
Squad got cooking at the Ronald McDonald House.
They helped slice onions, prepare salads, bake
chicken and mix up macaroni and cheese.
The Ronald McDonald House
of Pheonix was established in 1985 and now has
46 units. It provides a place for families of
patients in local hospitals to stay for only $10
per day and receive a warm meal, a bed and a smile.
A different organizations cooks each night.
The Ronald McDonald House
was first conceived of in 1973 by Philadelpha
Eagles football player Fred Hill whose daughter
had leukemia. He was shuffling from hotel to hotel.
As the cost and stress increased, he came up with
the idea of the Ronald McDonald House in conjunction
with the McDonald's restaurants in thae area.
There are now over 80 homes internationally near
local hospitals.
