On
Sunday, June 26, Arizona Federal's
Service Squad and Make a Difference
teamed up to battle the Arizona heat
and bring a Hawaiian-themed barbecue
to the residents of United Methodist
Outreach Ministires (UMOM) New Day
Center. UMOM is the largest family
homeless shelter in the state of Arizona
housing over 3,300 homeless, low-income
families and single women.
With a full
day of activities planned, the twelve
volunteers immediately started decorating
the lunchroom and preparing food for
the barbecue. Once the preparations
were complete, the festivities began!
Everyone received a lei as they entered
their tropical destination. Kids ran
to the arts and crafts room to create
hats and hula skirts while everyone
else jumped in line for a good home-cooked
barbecue including hot dogs, hamburgers,
cheeseburgers, fries, fruit salad
and ice cream.
By the end
of the day, everyone had smiles from
ear to ear and full stomachs.
Arizona
Federal is a locally-owned, locally-controlled,
and locally-operated federally-chartered
credit union managing $1 billion in
member assets and serving over 165,000
