Phoenix, Ariz. – On February 20, Arizona Federal and 100 Black Men of Phoenix awarded Rabbanni FurQaan and John B. Hart Jr. the annual Michael Hale Scholarship award. This $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually in recognition of the contributions made by Mr. Hale, Arizona Federal’s former longtime president and CEO. Receiving this scholarship will allow these outstanding students to pay for college expenses that might otherwise be a barrier to college enrollment.

Michael Hale actively worked with economically disadvantaged youth in the South Mountain area of Phoenix, most notably in his role as chairman of the 100 Black Men of Phoenix’s Mentorship Education Network (M.E.N.) Because of this, scholarship eligibility is directed specifically at youth members of M.E.N.

Rabbanni FurQaan graduates from Bourgade Catholic High School in May 2004. FurQaan plans to attend the University of Arizona in the fall to major in Business Management and minor in Mathematics.

John B. Hart Jr. graduates from South Mountain High in May 2004. This fall, Hart plans to study Business Management and Aerospace at Arizona State University. He also hopes to become a commercial airline pilot.
