See my IDCan I see your ID?

It’s a question that we’re often asked when traveling through the airport, visiting the gym or writing a check. CU Online now checks your ID, too. However, it isn't looking for your passport or driver’s license—it's looking for a small ID file—a “Device ID”—on your computer that shows it belongs to you. If you have it, you’ll enter smoothly into CU Online as you always have with your account number and password. You’ll be able to install this Device ID file into any computer that you regularly use (home, work, etc.). By checking for your ID, it will become increasingly more difficult for unauthorized users to access your account information.

Here’s how See my ID works:

CU Online will check for a Device ID. If it finds it, you will be logged in. If it can't find it, you will need to answer challenge questions.

It is interesting to note that over 90% of identity theft incidents originate from offline sources such as stolen mail and dumpster diving. In fact, only 8.3% of identity theft cases originate online. Those who eliminate paper bills, statements and checks, and replace them with online banking alternatives, are at a 10.4% reduced risk of becoming a fraud victim. (2006 Identity Fraud Survey Report completed by Javelin Strategy and Research, January, 2006).

Why are you adding this additional layer?

We’re deploying CU Online’s See my ID feature in response to guidance issued from regulators to all financial institutions that provide Internet-based account access. If you have accounts at any other financial institutions that you access online, you've probably seen new security features available on their sites as well.

Do I have to use See my ID?

Yes. As of December 27, 2006, See my ID is mandatory.
